“This cooperation is a symbol of our joint commitment to enhancing the capacity, achievement, and solidarity between nations through sports,” Chairperson of NOC Indonesia Raja Sapta Oktohari said in a statement here on Sunday.
The cooperation was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Oktohari and the President of the NOC of Iran, Mahmoud Khosravivafa, on the sidelines of the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
Both parties agreed to expand cooperation through various strategic initiatives, such as the exchange of coaches and athletes in flagship sports and the organization of joint training camps.
Furthermore, the cooperation includes the holding of multilateral championships, the development of scientific and technical programs, and the exchange of knowledge between sports experts from both nations.
Oktohari stated that the relationship between Indonesian and Iranian Olympic committees has been established since 2015, noting that his committee has consistently invited the Iranian team to come to Indonesia, and this cooperation now serves to strengthen that relationship.
He hoped that the cooperation could strengthen NOC Indonesia’s international network and support the capacity improvement of coaches and athletes.
President of the NOC of Iran, Mahmoud Khosravivafa, expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s spirit in building an inclusive and progressive world of sport.
He affirmed that Iran is ready to share its expertise in sports such as wrestling, weightlifting, taekwondo, volleyball, and wushu, and ready to learn from Indonesia’s excellence in badminton, beach sports, shooting, archery, and women’s weightlifting.
Khosravivafa noted that through the cooperation, his committee seeks to generate the best benefits for both Iran and Indonesia.
On that occasion, he also commended Indonesia’s friendliness during the 2018 Asian Games that it hosted in Jakarta and Palembang.
