In a first ministers’ press conference in Ontario on Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford said that provinces needed a stronger provincial role in immigration. He said Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab was not on the same page as Prime Minister Mark Carney and the provincial ministers on the issue.
“We need the prime minister to be clear with his minister,” Ford said.
Ford added that Ontario would issue its own work permits instead of waiting for federal work permits, using the authority under section 95 of the Constitution.
“Tremendous amount of asylum seekers” are without jobs and “sucking up the system non-stop,” because getting work permits takes over two years.”
Ford said the Ontario government spent over $100,000 on asylum seekers last year, and he was “still waiting to get paid back.”

Those asylum seekers have been getting on average $82K annually per person from our tax dollars, and now you want to reward them by flooding the job market even more. Unemployment is up, layoffs due to tariffs are looming, housing is a nightmare, no current jobs for Canadian Students, services are overloaded…. protect your current Canadian Workers before issuing work visas to migrants! Why are we paying all this money for non-Canadians who have not put money into the system?? there should be a 5 year minimum wait period for migrants to benefit from the systems they have not contributed to!! Please, someone in parliament explain how this is going to work before you implement something so ridiculous! More migrant workers means wages will stay artificially low while cost of living soars! Can I apply for a work PLACEMENT as an unemployed Canadian. INSTEAD of accepting immigrants into the country and allowing them permits to work for their own cousins who refuse to hire us? who are taking jobs then blockading us out.

If the provincial governments or the Premiers are allowed to grant work permits, then things will get even worse than it is. Canadian citizens will be pushed out more. Besides, the claim that certain high skilled jobs require foreign workers is a lie, and that's why the system is overwhelmed and Canadian citizens are getting layoff for cheaper wages. Therefore, Premiers or provincial governments must not be allowed to give work permits but the Federal government.
Is it because immigration in Canada is getting out of control and Mark Carney and Doug Ford are just realizing this?
