VP Gibran welcomed by South African President Ramaphosa at G20 Summit

Johannesburg (ANTARA) – Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka received a personal welcome from South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa upon his arrival at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday morning local time.

Based on ANTARA’s observation, Vice President Gibran arrived at the Johannesburg Expo Center for the high-level conference at 9:38 a.m. local time in a dark blue suit with a light blue tie and a black peci hat.

He then walked across a hallway toward President Ramaphosa, who greeted him with a handshake.

The two leaders engaged in a brief conversation before posing for a photo session. Afterward, Gibran joined world leaders in the main auditorium.

In the presence of around 40 global leaders, the Indonesian vice president is scheduled to deliver speeches in three sessions highlighting issues of global concern.

Reports indicate that he will be the 13th dignitary to convey a statement in the first session after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The session will discuss a sustainable economy, the roles of trade and finance in development, and the debts of developing countries.

He will also voice Indonesia’s stance in the subsequent session on building a resilient world, where world leaders will exchange views on issues related to disasters, climate change, just energy transition, and food systems.

Furthermore, he is set to speak in the final session dedicated to employment and the governance of artificial intelligence, as well as critical minerals, on which Indonesia places its focus at this year’s G20 Summit.

Gibran arrived in Johannesburg on Friday (November 21) at around 03:15 p.m. local time. That day, he participated in the Indonesia-Africa CEO Forum initiated by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

During the forum, the vice president announced a visa-free entry policy between Indonesia and South Africa—an immigration convenience resulting from an earlier meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President Ramaphosa in Jakarta last month.
