Lifter Rizki Juniansyah breaks two world records at 2025 SEA Games

Bangkok, Thailand (ANTARA) – Indonesian weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah on Monday broke two world records after winning the gold medal in the men’s 79-kilogram category at the 2025 SEA Games weightlifting final held at Chonburi Sports School, Chonburi, Thailand.

Following his victory, Juniansyah said the achievement marked an important breakthrough for his future career, including his ambition to compete at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

“I felt moved and proud, but my ultimate goal is the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. My target is to compete there,” he stated.

Juniansyah dominated the competition from the outset. His 160-kilogram lift in the snatch gave him a strong foundation and put Indonesia in a commanding position early in the final.

His performance peaked in the clean and jerk, where he successfully lifted 205 kilograms, setting his first world record of the competition and securing the gold medal.

With a combined total of 365 kilograms, Juniansyah went on to break a second world record, surpassing the previous mark of 363 kilograms.

Malaysia’s Muhammad Erry Hidayat claimed the silver medal with a total lift of 336 kilograms, while Thailand’s Natthawut Suepsuan secured bronze after lifting a combined 335 kilograms.

Juniansyah said the record-breaking performance was the result of careful planning with his coach. He revealed that his initial plan was to attempt a world record in the snatch, but his coach advised him to conserve energy for the clean and jerk.

“I intended to break the world record in snatch, but my coach did not allow it and advised me to save my power for clean and jerk,” he said, adding that his 160-kilogram snatch felt “more relaxed.”

The lifter also highlighted physical and mental readiness as key factors behind his success, including sufficient rest, proper nutrition, and strong support from his family and team during the 2025 SEA Games.

Indonesia’s contingent at the 2025 SEA Games consists of 1,021 athletes competing in 49 sports in Thailand.

As of Monday, December 15, Indonesia was ranked second in the provisional medal standings, having collected a total of 181 medals comprising 52 gold, 65 silver, and 64 bronze.
