Minister of State Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi said on Monday that during the visit President Prabowo will meet King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“The main agenda of the President’s visit this time is, first, related to the signing of a Maritime Partnership in the marine sector to build fishing vessels for our fishermen,” Hadi said at the presidential palace in Jakarta.
The maritime partnership will include the signing of a memorandum of understanding on fishing vessel construction.
Hadi noted that Indonesia, where about two-thirds of its territory is maritime, requires tens of thousands of such vessels.
Fishing vessels are needed not only to support fishermen and drive local economies, but also to protect fish resources for the benefit of the Indonesian people.
“We are opening cooperation with anyone, both domestic and foreign, to increase the number of fishing vessels we have,” he added.
As part of the second agenda, President Prabowo is scheduled to meet King Charles III to discuss elephant protection and conservation in Indonesia’s Aceh province.
During their previous meeting in London last year, King Charles III, who is a patron of the international conservation organisation WWF, asked Prabowo to donate a forest concession owned by his company, PT Tusam Hutani Lestari, in Aceh for elephant conservation.
“About a year ago, roughly eight months ago, the President personally handed over the forest concession under PT Tusam Hutani Lestari to the government to be repurposed as an elephant conservation corridor, in cooperation with King Charles,” Hadi added.
In addition, Prabowo will explore cooperation with several leading universities from Britain’s Russell Group, alongside Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, in areas including science, technology and medicine.
Hadi said the cooperation would help Indonesia address its shortage of medical doctors.
President Prabowo arrived at London Stansted Airport on Sunday for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and strategic partnerships between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
He is scheduled to meet Starmer at the prime minister’s office, while his meeting with King Charles will take place at St James’s Palace.
