Ethiopian Airways will return troubled jet to service after 2019 crash killed 157 folks
Ethiopian Airways introduced on Monday it plans to renew flying Boeing 737 MAX planes in its fleet in February 2022, saying it was happy with their security.
“Security is our topmost precedence… and it guides each determination we make and all actions we take,” the corporate’s chairman, Tewolde Gebremariam, stated in an announcement. “We’ve got taken sufficient time to observe the design modification work and the greater than 20 months of rigorous rectification course of… our pilots, engineers, plane technicians, cabin crew are assured on the protection of the fleet,” he added.
Boeing’s best-selling, single-aisle 737 MAX airplane was grounded worldwide after two separate crashes simply six months aside, which killed 346 folks.

In 2019, Ethiopian Airways flight 302, a Boeing 737 MAX certain for Kenya, crashed six minutes after takeoff from the capital, Addis Ababa, killing all 157 passengers and crew. It was the second 737 MAX catastrophe in six months, after a Lion Air aircraft in Indonesia crashed in October 2018, killing 189 folks.
Investigators recognized faults within the sensors and new flight management software program that had not been defined to pilots.
The aircraft returned to service in late 2020, with airways throughout the globe taking deliveries of the plane.
